Part III

I was owed a favour by a buddy who is an auto-sprayer so I was able to have the white professionally applied. I was pretty shocked when I saw it come out of the spray booth - it was perfect! But I was about to be shocked even more... The next day I awoke to find the paint had reacted! There was nobody to blame, it was just one of those things, but that didn't make me feel any better. Heh. This screwed up the timetable I had to finish this project, I was going home to Wellington from my holiday the next day so I couldn't have my "Obi-Wan of FX", Alister, weather it for me... But on a positive note, this did let me go back (albeit one final time!) and do a tiny bit more reshaping... Yeah right, a tiny bit! This time around I cut the attached ear-caps off and made the base where they sit symmetrical (there's that word again). So I had to scratch build new ear-caps from styrene - this was easy and gave me the chance to have the helmet perfect. Ah, perfect symmetry. I won't tell you how long I spent reshaping the details, but it was a long time - it is time well spent though... If I was building these for the Republic back during the Clone Wars the Separatists would've kicked some butt! This is it before the primer-filler is applied. I have to admit that it looks pretty cool as it is - fresh from a skirmish in a Clone Wars. But I'm aiming for a production line finish; for about a day anyway - then I'll throw it down some steps for authentic weathering. The end is near!
