Well, that's it for another 6 months! Monday was a little quieter compared to the first two days, but the overall increase in foot traffic definitely tested the capacity and layout of the Michael Fowler Centre (read the earlier report from day one). Still, general enjoyment seemed to be the response of most, as there were flavours of entertainment to suit most tastes.

The highlight, from the perspective of those with a passion for Star Wars, was indisputably the appearance of both of the big men from the original trilogy, David Prowse as Darth Vader, and Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca (now also a prequel player...but sworn to secrecy on the details of his role). Although this convention was comparatively small compared to some that they attend, both stars delighted fans of all ages with their presentations, autographs and general presence. As special guests, along with their respective partners (Norma Prowse and Angie Mayhew), at the ANZ Garrison's convention dinner on the Saturday night, they treated us with a more personal account of their involvement in the movies, and lives since. All indicators suggests that they all enjoyed the hospitality that they received, and the snippets of New Zealand that they were able to get out and see (this was Peter's second visit to NZ, and David seemed more than keen to return to a future convention).

What else was there? Well, you've seen the selection of pics of the Lord of the Rings display by Weta Workshop. Weta have bought life-size statues and displays to other Armageddon conventions, but, being Wellington locals, laid out a large and impressive display of statues, helmets, weapons and maquettes for this expo. The Medieval Shoppe aptly scored the adjoining space, and Dymocks and NZ Post also made use of the LOTR theme by emphasising their related products.

Comics, comic artists, television guests/stars, video games, trading cards et al filled out the remainder of the hallways and levels. Bargains were there for the taking on VHS and DVD movies. What was with the teenagers picking on Pikachu though? May karmic balance condemn them to a lifetime of continuous Pokemon re-runs.

So that's all until sometime around April 16th, 2004. See you there!
