Okay, here's something different:

It was a short-notice request (hence, they needed someone local), but I managed to fit it into my morning today - South Pacific Pictures wanted a stormtrooper for a skit on the Shortland Street emergency department set (in Henderson) that they will use for the New Zealand Screen Awards next week. Oliver Driver will be hosting the awards, and the skit involved current Shortland Street actors, in character, and as many of the ex-cast as they could find (i.e., they 'revived' many dead characters).

They needed a stormtrooper to fill in for Tem Morrison's character, Dr Hone Ropata...a bit of a stretch using a stormtrooper rather than a clonetrooper, but the gag worked in the context of the skit. It was the first time I've had to 'act' (try and convey dismay/disappointment) through the armour rather than just stand in stormtrooper poses.

The footage will be shown used/shown at the Screen Awards, but I don't think they will are televising the whole awards, so unfortunately this, and the other, related skits they filmed for the awards, probably won't be televised.

The stormtrooper armour received much praise, and afterwards, heaps of the crew wanted photos - they have plenty of polaroid cameras around that they use to help with continuity on the sets and of the costumes, so they got put to use for stormtrooper snapshots.

The photos aren't great, but at least they prove I was there. Hopefully I'll be able to get a copy of the footage and can post some screen grabs.

1) Polaroid taken on one of the other sets.

2) With Michael Galvin, who was very pleasant.

3) In the dressing room (just took this one in case I wasn't going to be able to get any/many others.

Awesome Matt! I mean Dr Ropata...I mean Jake.

Definately good exposure!

Hey you should be putting together a Port Folio. Never know, you might get a chance to do some extra work in GL's Star Wars TV series.

That is cool Matt, I do hope we get to see it. But from memory, the awards aren't screened to the public. The only stuff we see of it is on the news, or the Eating Media Lunch coverage... Which fully takes the...

We all remember Vader on EML, right? Very cool, it was repeated a few weeks ago.

You are right - they don't televise the whole thing, but there may be highlights (unlikely to involve the pre-recorded skits though).

Like I say, hopefully I'll be able to get a copy of the footage.

Stay tuned.

Yeah, there's probably a bit of widescreen distortion going on there. I tried to correct it based on the visible human faces, but didn't want to overdo it.

The segment is actually a fair bit longer, they've cut off the begining and end, but pretty cool they showed the part with Matt. I caught it on tape completely by accident.
